The Grange

New Open Plan Living Space

The Grange is a charming 1940's manor house that boasts exquisite original features, reflecting the architectural elegance of its era. The renovation project aimed to blend modern conveniences with the home's historic character, ensuring that every update was both thoughtful and respectful of the building's heritage.

The client was looking to extend the current kitchen and reconfigure it into a large open plan space. This required the demolition of load bearing walls ad the reconfiguration of all services.

The challenge on this project was installing the steel columns and beams to take the load of the storey's above and span the load from removing the load bearing walls. Drainage needed reconfiguring to accommodate very deep pad foundations which had to be dug and filled with concrete to take the large steel posts above.

We also formed a new rooflight within a new flat roof to provide light to the previously dark space. Another challenge was to dig out the whole floor area, 120m2 at 500mm deep to re-build up to new building control regulations. The end product resulted in an unrecognisable space bringing light and a larger space for our client.

TESTIMONIAL

We are absolutely delighted with the transformation of our home - we now have a stunning, light-filled open-plan kitchen space that perfectly blends modern living with the home's original character. Despite the complex structural work involved, including major steel installations and extensive groundworks, the project was handled with outstanding professionalism and care, and the results have exceeded our expectations
