The Project
Hawker Construction carried out the enabling, groundworks and construction of a new link for a new modular classroom block attached to an existing school.
The biggest challenge with this project was to complete all the works within the school holiday before the children returned. This was particularly challenging as no design was available for the link dimensions until the modular unit was in place. This would however make the programme dates impossible to achieve.
We increased our workforce to ensure the groundworks and services were in place ready for an earlier delivery date for the modular supplier. We then installed the main columns for the steel structure prior to the modules being positioned and left them oversized. Once the modules were in situ we increased our working hours to ensure the link was completed in the timeframes. To do this we were required to cut the steels to the correct sizes on site and complete the works
