St Wilfrid’s Primary School

Modular Installation

Hawker Construction demolished the existing modular building and completed groundworks with new services for a new modular classroom block with a timber decked area.

The challenge with this job was the ground levels with a difference of 1.2 metres across the area, which affect the modular building, skirt detail and the timber decked area. The other challenge was getting all the materials in and out through a very narrow access with a limited turning circle.

Due to the access we had to use a trailer to deliver plant and materials as close as we could and then use the trailer to transport to and from the site location from the pinch point.

With regard to the ground levels we worked closely with the module supplier to understand their level requirements and finished floor levels. We then installed the main concrete pads in at existing ground level, which would allow us to build off them with concrete blocks to achieve our required levels. We then worked closely with the designers to establish a skirt and decking detail that would provide the school with the required air flow whilst still prohibiting gaps for children’s fingers and wildlife to get into.

The project was completed within the 6 weeks holidays as programmed and within the schools original budget.

TESTIMONIAL

Extremely tight access and the level differences on site meant that Hawker Construction had to plan the project precisely to ensure the successful delivery
